Behold: Bristlecones!

Bristlecone pines might account for the oldest living organisms on earth. Some of them are nearly 5,000 years old. They grow in harsh conditions, perched on mountains of the Southwestern United States, weathered, old, and gnarled.

Look at this photo, taken from Utah Pictures. It looks like it's made out of taffy, not wood:
